Join us August 22nd at our Stache Bash, downtown in the Music Hall beginning at 8pm. We have several local bands lined up and ready to jam to some stache worthy tunes. Prizes will be given to the best Staches in town.

We are very pleased to report the first Beer Corps volunteer day took place this past weekend. Twelve Capital Ale House staff members from our Downtown Restaurant and nine from our Midlothian location chose to spend their Saturday morning helping the 10th Annual James River Clean-Up effort.
Our Downtown Beer Corps reported to Pony Pasture Park. This crew worked in the parking areas weeding, mowing, and painting the curbs, the trash and recycling containers and benches before being recruited to cook the burgers and hot dogs provided for all the hardworking volunteers. Meanwhile the Midlothian Beer Corps reported to the Robious Landing and collected many bags of trash along the park's trails and behind James River High School. The many bags of trash and spruced up parking area proved the success of the event.
Both groups reported having a great time pitching in and look forward to future Beer Corps outings. We salute our Beer Corps members, some of whom worked in the restaurants late the before, for their hard work and positive attitudes. We feel these staff members reflect the best of our company and our community.
Capital Ale House - Project Virginia
Watching the economy deteriorate over the last few months has been grim. Our local economy is in better shape than many other places in the country but that doesn’t make us feel any better when we see the effects it has had on our friends, neighbors and other businesses.
Capital Ale House, like most local companies, has decided to go toe to toe with the economy. But in doing so, we want to go beyond just trying to build sales. Additionally, we want to have a more positive effect our community and state. To do this, we are announcing our Project Virginia, a plan of company goals and commitments to our guests, communities and State.
Part 1: Capital Ale House will make an increased commitment to the State of Virginia by setting a goal, July 2009 through June 2010, to purchase a minimum of $1,500,000 of services by Virginians and products grown, raised, caught, distilled, brewed and fermented in the State of Virginia.
Virginia Beer: We will stock and sell every available micro-brewed beer
produced in the State of Virginia. We will strive to add more Virginia beer related events and greatly expand the upcoming 2nd Annual Virginia Beer Festival later this summer.
Virginia Wine: We will commit a minimum 30% of our wine list to Virginia wines and offer these wines by the glass as house pours.
Virginia Spirits: We have recently changed from the Russian made
Stolichnaya Vodka as our house pour to the Gold Medal winning Cirrus Vodka. Not only is this vodka better, it’s made here in Richmond. We hope more premium spirits made in Virginia will be presented to us in the future.
Virginia Foods: Each of our restaurants will feature a daily 100 Mile Special. The main ingredient in these specials will have been produced, raised or caught by Virginians. We will, whenever possible, choose Virginia products first.
Part 2: Local non-profit and charitable organizations have been negatively affected by the economic downturn. Capital Ale House will help these organizations with the following programs:
The return of Community Chest Night: Community Chest Night offers to
donate 25% of your food purchases each Thursday Night between the hours of 5pm and 10pm to selected
non-profit organizations.
Beer Corps: We will pay any Capital Ale House employee for up to 4 hours per week up to 10 hours per month for community service or allow them to use community service hours worked to meet their minimum hours for health insurance eligibility.
We look forward to beginning the process of redirecting our purchasing so that we may return as much as possible to the local economy.
Sincerely,
Matthew Simmons
President
Capital Ale House
